Biography

Destroy By Design was a five-piece political rap metal band from Spring Hill, Tennessee that tore through the Southeast and Midwest from 2002 to 2010.

Formed by Josh (vocals), Jason, James, BJ (lead guitar), and Jamie (bass), the band built a reputation for explosive live shows and politically charged lyrics that didn’t pull punches. Starting as a rap metal project influenced by the nu-metal movement, Destroy By Design evolved into something more aggressive over the years, adding metalcore screaming to their hip-hop flow while keeping the groove and hooks intact.

Josh wrote all the lyrics, tackling political and social issues head-on, while the rest of the band collaborated on the music, creating a sound that mixed catchy riffs with heavy rhythms and unapologetic anger. The band played extensively around Nashville and beyond, building a loyal fanbase with their high-energy performances and refusal to water down their message.

In 2007, Destroy By Design released their self-titled debut album, a 10-track statement of political fury and rap metal brutality. The band continued gigging hard until 2010, when members went their separate directions. The split was amicable, no drama, just life pulling people different ways.

In 2025, the self-titled album was reissued through Idle Mind Media with four previously unreleased bonus tracks: “Police State,” “They Don’t,” “My Right,” and “Break Down”, a final glimpse of what the band was working on before they called it.

Destroy By Design ended, but the music still hits.
